Medal promoting William Henry Harrison for president, 1840. White metal. DeWitt WHH 1840-21. Holed for suspension. OBV: Military bust of Harrison to left; inscription, MAJ. GENl. Wm. H. HARRISON, around; enclosed by heavy oak wreath. REV: Log cabin with flag flying left, cider barrel inscribed, HARD/ CIDER, to left, a plow in foreground; inscription around, THE LOG CABIN CANDIDATE/ THE PEOPLES CHOICE, star to left and right; BALE (engraver) below.
Mate to MVB 1840-4 and 5 by same firm. As noted by DeWitt, the log cabin is so highly raised that the reverse has a convex surface. One of the most desirable Harrison campaign medals, typically found in lower grade. This specimen the best we have encountered, comparable the one that achieved $337.50 in Heritage #6235.
