Medalet promoting William Henry Harrison for president, 1840. Silvered copper. DeWitt WHH 1840-25. Holed for suspension. OBV: Military bust of Harrison to left; above, in a semicircle, MAJ. GEN. WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON; below, BORN FEB. 9, 1773. REV: Log cabin, flag flying right, cider barrel and mug at left; above, in a semicircle, THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE; below, THE HERO/ OF/ TIPPECANOE. Of this issue, DeWitt states, "Occasionally found in silvered and gilded copper. Many of these pieces show evidence of badly worn dies." This is the first we have encountered.
