Print, a portrait of Gen. Zachary Taylor, 1846. Hand-colored small folio lithograph, published by Sarony & Major, New York, with stated 1846 copyright. Subtitled, "ROUGH and READY." Depicts Taylor in uniform on a Mexican War battlefield.
Clearly, the artist had never seen Taylor and used Napoleon as his model! Two years later, Taylor would be the Whig candidate for president, and prints such as this would be recycled as campaign posters. Crisp, clean example with vivid color.
