Portrait of Gen. Zachary Taylor, c. 1849. Reverse-painted transfer on glass, housed in original black lacquer frame with decorative brass filet and integral loop for hanging. Size refers to overall dimensions. Military portrait of Taylor facing left.

Produced in France for export to the United States around the time of Taylor's inauguration. The process apparently involved a black-and-white transfer applied to the reverse side of the glass, which was then hand-painted. A superb display item for our 12th president, in excellent condition.
